Slugs fruit trees
A wooden board placed at the height of the trunk of a fruit tree will prevent slugs from snacking on your fruit.
The board will reduce the air space in the tree, creating a moisture trap which will entice pests away from your trees. Slugs are attracted to moist conditions.
Board of corrugated iron or similar large size
To get rid of slugs quickly and effectively (you don’t need to dismantle the board after it’s been in place for a while), pour down a mixture of baking soda and water (or other slug bait) from a watering can onto the board.
The mixture should be about 5 centimetres thick, and can easily be spread using a paintbrush.
Place the board in place, approximately 5 centimetres away from the trunk of the fruit tree and the board can be placed at any time, even on a long-established tree.
Once a day, top up the board with the mixture (the mixture will last two or three days, depending on the weather).
Tobacco herb
Slugs are scared of tobacco smoke.
Using a long-stemmed cigarette or a pipe, smoke a series of trails or “darts” around your garden. As each puff travels, the insects near the puffer will be disturbed. A small breeze or a slight movement of the leaves will ensure that the insects are covered in tobacco dust, helping them to stay away from the garden.
Grow lush
A deciduous hedge between your garden and the hedge or trees on either side will keep slugs at bay, as well as protecting your fruit trees from unwanted squirrels.

Seedlings to your attention
Seedlings for the home garden are often vulnerable to slug attacks. To avoid having your garden devoured by slugs, grow your garden away from a wall, fence or other source of dense vegetation.
Remove the seeds or seedlings once they are established in the garden, and give them at least 6cm of space between each other.
As you place your seedlings in the garden, also place a circle of stones or gravel around them, to discourage any destructive species.
In the initial stages of garden plantings, we recommend that you leave any seedlings exposed to the elements, as we don’t know what pests your local area has. Slugs and mites will most likely not be a problem to your seedlings, so leave them be for a few days or weeks. After that, remove the seedlings from the garden for four or five months.
Preventive home-grown method
Slugs are attracted to damp conditions and seeds, so a slug deterrent such as cayenne pepper or garlic could be a good deterrent against slugs in your garden.
Cover your plants with protective netting, such as banana leaves, or place them in a shadehouse or conservatory to protect your garden.
Slugs are attracted to seeds and seedlings, so place some bare-root plants in the ground, away from your walls and around any other large vegetables.
Blitz potato sprouts
The easiest and most effective slug control method is to plant any vegetable such as potatoes, beetroot, carrots and cauliflowers before they produce buds. A garden insecticide could be applied to your garden, but it is best to create a slug-free environment by planting these crops at the beginning of spring.
Other fruit-growing method
Fruit bushes in the garden will only produce fruit if they are in a sheltered location, away from the wind, and where they are protected from squirrels. The absence of food in the bud stage for fruit bushes will often result in the female berries dropping, which results in an unattractive pear-shaped fruit. The same problem occurs when soft fruit such as strawberries and blackcurrants are not picked regularly. Fruit bushes should be picked and separated carefully from the ground.
Protect your garden
Start using some of these simple tips to protect your garden from slugs and to avoid slug attacks on your fruit trees and vegetables.
Think Slugproof
Fruit trees and other plants are more vulnerable to slug attacks, and therefore it’s important to do everything you can to prevent them getting into your garden.
Creating a solid slag, such as concrete or soil, around the outside of your fruit tree or garden is a good start.
Plant deterrents
If you’re not keen on sowing seeds and preparing the ground yourself, there are various slug control products available, which are easier to apply.
Squash plants
Protect your fruit trees from falling fruit by placing protective netting around them. Plant a new variety of squash such as zucchini or spaghetti squash, which will need a cage to keep them from spreading on the ground.
Özünüzü böyütməyə qərar verərsənsə, squash bitkilərinizi təcrid olunmuş ərazidə əkin, hər hansı digər meyvə ağacından uzaqlaşdırın və hər hansı bir heyvandan əldə etmənin qarşısını al. Onları yaxşı suli saxladığınızdan əmin olun və hətta elementlərdən qorumaq üçün qapalı bir qəfəsdən istifadə edə bilərsiniz.
